D'Lynn Waldron, Patrice Lumumba, and the Independence of the Congo from Belgium.

In the spring of 1960, I was the only foreign correspondent covering Patrice Lumumba in Stanleyville just before Independence, and as such and an American, I became Lumumba's confidant and the one he entrusted to mediate between himself and the Belgian administration and to get the word to Eisenhower and the American people that he was absolutely not a Communist, that he feared Russia, that he admired America, and that he wanted President Eisenhower to have his people come to America for a crash course in administration before Independence.

- Lumumba had me mediate between himself and the Belgian authorities, and when General Janssens brought in Congolese soldiers from a distant, hostile tribe to control Stanleyville, a war of telegrams and confiscated newspapers followed.

- I took the above photograph of Lumumba on the day of the demonstrations in which, as part of the flotilla of forty-man perogues, Lumumba and I shot the Stanley Rapids of the Congo River down to Stanleyville. My published photographs taken in the rapids can be seen on the Lumumba page of this site.

- I gave a print of this photograph of Lumumba to Prime Minister Nehru of India when I was a guest in Nehru's home, and Nehru framed it.

-You will find click-throughs to the Lumumba and other Congo and Africa materials below.

NOTE: MANY OF THESE PAGES CONTAIN FULL SIZE DOCUMENTS AND ARE VERY LARGE. IF YOU ARE ON BROADBAND THIS WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM, BUT IF YOU ARE ON A DIAL-UP MODEM, SOME PAGES WILL TAKE AS LONG AS A MINUTE OR MORE TO LOAD.

Lumumba, the assassinated first Prime Minister of the Congo.
D'Lynn Waldron's newspaper headline stories and photographs, plus related documents from 1960, with a commentary by D'Lynn Waldron written in 2001. The subjects covered on this web site include Lumumba in Stanleyville and his real attitude towards America and Russia, and the secret cannibal war in the Kasai fostered by the Belgian government to sabotage the upcoming independence, which D'Lynn Waldron exposed.

PART 1- LUMUMBA IN STANLEYVILLE AT THE TIME OF THE ELECTIONS
D'Lynn Waldron was the only correspondent in Stanleyville and her newspaper stories contain both historically accurate information as written by D'Lynn Waldron, and also the disinformation put in by the newspaper publisher back in America. Her 2001 com
mentary points out the disinformation.
